The Shanghai branch of State Bank of India (SBI) would launch a special desk for the Chinese investors. This move is to attract investments from China under the Make in India campaign. According to the bank officials, “This special desk will be the first China dedicated desk at any Indian bank and would follow a Japan desk, fixed in New Delhi by the bank last month following which the International Development Bank of Japan has shown interest in business opportunities in India. The special desk of China would start functioning on Monday. “With the aim to grab these opportunities, more than 20 Indian Companies are interested in taking part in the India-China Business and investment forum and the most recent investment opportunities will be introduced under the campaign of Make in India,” the SBI officials announced. They had attended the ‘India-China Business Forum’ held in China city Wuxi. “The China desk will be provided with suggested facilities”, they added. Many of the Chinese companies are likely to announce new investment opportunities in India that include roads, smart cities, infrastructure development, renewable energies, power sector, solar panels, and urban transportation. The special desk of China will manage with SBI and arrange financial advisory services for the Chinese investor. The desk will also be aided by Chinese banking executives. The Shanghai-based desk is being launched at a period when India is courting Chinese investment and pushing the Make in India initiative for infrastructure projects such as industrial parks for automobiles, power, solar projects and real estate developments. According to the Consul-General of India in Shanghai, Prakash Gupta, “The B2B meetings have already been scheduled for the Indian firms along with their Chinese colleagues.”
