The Adani Group is all set to construct two solar farms in Australia spending around A$400 million ($300 million) underlining its commitment to construct 1,500 megawatts of solar energy plants in the country in five years.

The group is already in the middle of a delayed project of building a $7 billion coal mine in Australia. It is not making any progress because of a string of environmental lawsuits that are coming in the way of its construction.

The present project will entail building a 100-200 MW solar farm in Moranbah which has been badly affected by the global slowdown in coal mining in the last four years. The town, located in the east of Australia, will see the construction begin in mid-2017 which will continue for a year.

The construction of the second farm will take place in Whyalla which is a town located in South Australia. The project is expected to be completed in a year leading to creation of 350 jobs. It will involve a 120 MW solar generation plant having a potential capacity of up to 150MW, thus making it one of the largest solar farms in Australia. Adani has already signed a land deal for the project with the Whyalla city council.

According to Jeyakumar Janakaraj, CEO of Adani’s Australian operations, the company is looking forward to enhancing the South Australian renewable energy industry by working with the Whyalla community.
