In a bid to strengthen its supply chain in India, Apple will be establishing its first distribution centre for its products in the country. The move is expected to consolidate the logistics operations of the American multinational technology company along with ensuring common prices for its products at its offline and online channels.

The owner of the distribution centre will be DB Schenker which is Apple's global logistics partner and is also Europe's largest logistics company. It will be set up in Bhiwandi located on the outskirts of Mumbai.

As per the company, there was a need for such a distribution unit in India because of the huge demand for the company’s flagship products  that were launched recently.  It was seen that the stock for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus got consumed in the month of October as the retail stores could not meet the tremendous demand.

Presently, the Apple products land up in India through major cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore from where they are directly dispatched from the airport to the distributors.

Talking about the prices offered through online channels Apple said the players managed to keep them low as the products come from places where the value added tax is set to a minimum.
