Since she joined Da Milano in 2007, when the brand had only two stores in India, Shivani Malik, Director at the premium leather accessories brand has indeed come a long way. Today the brand has 55 exclusive boutiques spread all across India, with further expansion plans on the horizon. As a brand which has an array of handbags, portfolio bags, travel bags, wallets and accessories in its line-up, each collection is designed keeping in mind the trend report of every season. “The inspiration for Da Milano Italia is to create leather goods with clean lines, detailed finishing and superior quality. And with India being a land of abundant resources, we ensure the art of craftsmanship and manufacturing meets great standards,” says Malik.
The brand boasts of using the finest leather and the most premium Italian fittings for their products, and has a design team in Florence, Italy and one in India to bring about an eclectic mix of various styles. In her free time, Malik loves to travel and take time off with her family and friends. “To travel is to live, as adventures are the best way to learn about life and more importantly yourself,” she adds dreamily.
TDB: What differentiates Da Milano from other Indian leather brands?
Shivani Malik (SM): At Da Milano, we provide our customers with world class store ambience, an international shopping experience and we are the trendsetters in accessories. We are a brand combined with affordability and durability, and that is what differentiates us from our competitors.
TDB: Where are Da Milano products primarily manufactured? Are you importing any raw materials?
SM: The collection is designed catering to the trend report of every season. We source our raw materials from various parts of the world. Our leather is sourced majorly from Italy and Brazil and hardware is imported mostly from countries like Hong Kong, and manufactured in Baddi in Himachal Pradesh.
TDB: How do you ensure that the products you manufacture are of the highest quality?
SM: Da Milano facilitates the production of leather fashion accessories which follows international manufacturing technology. A majority of our production is done in Nalagarh, Himachal Pradesh and Kolkata, which helps us maintain price brackets and also a close check on quality controls. The brand’s craftsmen carefully oversee every step, bringing in their experiences and dedication to make Da Milano’s products peerless in the world.
TDB: Is the Indian consumer open to spending lavishly on leather accessories?
SM: The taste of Indian consumers has evolved with time, quality is more sought after. Our customers are appreciators of fine quality and we attempt to deliver them the best and elevate their shopping experience.
