Doval meets his US counterpart, discusses global issues

India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, who arrived in the US on Monday, has met Gen (retd) Michael Flynn, Donald Trumps’ NSA designate and is believed that they have discussions on a wide range of issues related to regional and global strategic and explored ways to enhance Indo-US relations.

During the meeting, the US president elect NSA designate is believed to have expressed 'high respect' for India’s leadership and growth of India in the modern times, according to Indian embassy sources.

It is understood that Flynn has spoken to India’s NSA over phone few days back, during which he has extended an invitation to Doval to visit US for a discussion.

This was the first meeting between the two counterparts and is believed the discussion lasted for more than an hour. The meeting was an opportunity for both the sides to exchange views and notes on world issues, and how to further boost cooperation and engagement between India and the US in the coming months and years, as per the embassy sources.

Flynn expressed his 'optimism' on Indo-US engagement as both leaders reviewed the ties including strategic as well as economic aspects.
