The hurdles faced by French firms, who are willing to invest in India, should not be taken down lightly and the rules need to be “fair and visible,” said former French President, Nicolas Sarkozy while voicing the concerns of French firms, which are doing business in the country.

Sarkozy pointed out the fact that bilateral trade between India and France shot up three times in past 10 years. “The investments from France to India are amounted to $20 billion and French firms are providing employment to 3 lakh people in India,” said the former president.

“I will not say ‘Make in India’ but ‘Make with India,’ as it seems like a better concept with a partnership on equal footing,” he said while addressing a gathering at an industry conference in New Delhi on Wednesday.

“Though the ties between France and India are doing well, they can be better as India has very deep roots,” he added.

He further said that the strategic partnership between the two nations came to realisation because of cooperation in the areas of nuclear, energy and national defense, which are vital for India.

Earlier, during his Presidency in 2007-2012, Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni had visited India in 2008. He was the chief guest for the Republic Day.
