Low cost carrier, GoAir, on Thursday announced that it has got its first A320neo aircraft which landed early morning at IGIA airport, New Delhi. With this addition, the airline has enhanced its fleet to 20 aircrafts. The airline is now able to operate on international routes.
“GoAir is pleased to receive A320neo into its aircraft fleet. With the addition of the first of our 72 NEO aircrafts on order, we now have a fleet strength of 20 aircrafts,” said Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, CEO of GoAir in a company release.
The budget carrier had placed an order for 72 new A320 Neo aircraft with Airbus in June 2011, valued around Rs.32,400 crore as per the list price.
“With this introduction, we are able to enhance our domestic network and also function on international routes,” he added.
Currently, the regulations in India require a carrier to have at least five years of flying experience on domestic routes and a fleet of minimum 20 aircrafts to be eligible for international operations.
GoAir is the first to use A320neo in Spaceflex configuration with 186 seats facilitating better services and availability of aircraft during peak seasons, without compromising on the travellers’ comfort, the statement said.
The A320neo (new engine option) is designed in a comfortable layout and is fitted with the innovative concept of Spaceflex cabins, making it more efficient to use the available space.
The A320neo is incorporated with a lot of innovative features such as state-of-the-art engines and big Sharklet wing-tip devices. These will help in 15 percent fuel savings from the first day and 20 percent by 2020. This is equal to a reduction of 5,000 tonnes of CO2 per aircraft every year.
