Good monsoon to boost demand for tractors: Sonalika

Sonalika’s market share in tractor exports in the first quarter this year is 13.7 percent.

The onset of a better monsoon this year is expected to increase the demand for tractors in the national market, an official from India’s leading tractor manufacturing company, Sonalika International Tractors, said in Kolkata on Friday. 

“The situation has started improving because this year we are having good rainfall. We are expecting a growth of 10 percent, said R K Singh, President - Sales and Marketing, Sonalika International Tractors.

“In the previous year, the tractor industry witnessed a decline of around 9 percent. However, we maintained our share in the market,” Singh said. 

The market share of Sonalika’s tractor exports in the first quarter period this year is 13.7 percent compared to 13 percent in the same period a year earlier, he said. 

With regard to the domestic market, Sonalika has sold 18,725 units in the given quarter this year against the 17,689 units in the same period last year.

In West Bengal alone, the company has sold 819 tractors in this quarter, recording an increase of 45 percent in the state, he informed. 

“Sonalika has witnessed a growth of 5.9 percent in sales in the national market. And a growth of 0.7 percent in exports,” he added.

Sonalika International Tractors Ltd is India’s heavy duty tractor manufacturing company and is the third largest player. It is known in domestic as well as in the international market as a formidable player. The company boasts of a state-of-the art tractor manufacturing plant in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, having a capacity to produce about 2 lakhs tractors per year.
