As part of its efforts towards ease of doing business, the government is in the process of making overseas trade paperless. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) is taking slew of measures to simplify the business process for traders including exporters and importers, a report said. “In the days to come, the ministry is going to focus on simplification and ease of doing business, use of technology and digital things to make international trading paperless,” Commerce Secretary Rajeev Kher was quoted as saying. The ministry has launched two mobile applications meant for traders seeking information about services and schemes related to foreign trade. The new apps—DGFT and DAVA— will be accessible to traders on Android platform. DGFT app will enable exporters and importers to get information about the new foreign trade policy and search various documents on their mobile phones. Through DAVA app, importers can check the authenticity of drugs supplied from foreign countries. “With just one click, the trade community would be able to check the status of transmission of various authorisations and the shipping bills through the dynamic app. The app will allow the exporters/importers to search for ITC(HS) codes and Merchandise exports from India rates which are huge databases that are used every day by the whole trade community,” the ministry said in a statement. The Ministry of Commerce, has also launched an updated version of the DGFT website to make it more user-friendly. “DGFT website has a huge dynamic component whereby the trade community can file applications online for IEC and various other schemes of DGFT. The exporters can also see the status of their electronic bank realization certificates in almost real-time,” the statement said.
