Govt to e-auction eight coal mines in January

    The government on Thursday announced the dates for its fourth round of online auction of eight coal blocks in sectors such as steel, cement and iron. “It has been decided to auction eight Schedule- III coal mines earmarked for non-regulated sector i.e. iron & steel, cement and captive power plants in the fourth tranche,” Coal Secretary Anil Swarup said. Three rounds of auctions have already been held and allotted, for which the government has already mobilised over Rs.3 lakh crore. Directions have been issued to the nominated authority who will conduct the fresh auctions. Wadhwa said that the notice inviting tender will begin on November 20, while the due date for submission of bids is December 31, 2015. “The e-auctions for these mines will be held from January 18, 2016 to January 22, 2016 and the vesting order by the nominated authority to the successful bidder shall be issued by March 10, 2016,” Swarup said. These coal blocks are located at Brahampuri and Suliyari in Madhya Pradesh, Gondkhari and Khappa & Extn in Maharashtra, Bundu and Gondulpura in Jharkhand and Jaganathpur A and Jaganathpur B in West Bengal. These mines have a cumulative reserve of 1.14 billion tonnes and their peak rated capacity is at 12.86 million tonnes.
