India, Norway discuss innovation projects in renewable energy

India and Norway have a joint call to target companies for innovation projects in the area of renewable energy.

“A joint call was launched between the Department of Science and Technology (DST) of India and Research Council of Norway during a matchmaking workshop at the Norwegian Embassy on renewable energy,” according to an official statement.

“The call is for $1 million, targeting innovation projects in companies collaborating with research institutions in the field of renewable energy,” it said.

Nearly 80 participants from both the countries had a prosperous and comprehensive discussion on the area.

The representatives from both the sides also had a discussion on a broad range of topics such as solar power, wind power, hydro energy, energy storage, artificial intelligence-based smart infrastructure, grid integration and off-grid solutions.

The workshop was co-hosted by the Norwegian Embassy, Innovation Norway, The Research Council of Norway, DST and Institute of Technology Delhi.

“Our technologies do not exclude each other. I am impressed by the work that has been done in India. I think that our products complement the existing ones and create a basis for creating even better solutions,” said Jorgen Kildahl, representing Smart Energy Systems.

“The goal must be to utilise prevailing resources to their fullest and reduce the need for investing further,” he added.

India has an ambitious target in the area of renewable energy, specifically within solar energy where the country has planned to reach the capacity of 100 GW by 2020.

Participants at the workshop stressed that the two countries are positive to collaborate in the future.

In the week-long event, a memorandum of collaboration was signed between Norway’s NCE Smart energy Market Halden and India’s Power Grid Corporation covering cooperation for 15 nations.
