Union Minister for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal said that India was poised to become the world’s clean energy capital.

"The mission of the government is to enhance the use of clean technology and renewables for generating power, thus, making India clean energy capital of the world," said the minister, while commemorating the Environment Day in Noida on Friday.

Goyal also released a coffee table book on bio-diversity - The Good Earth, by NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd).

He emphasised on the need for forest restoration by planting trees on a great scale and prodded the PSU to surpass its tree plantation targets and to keep a proper record highlighting the ownership of activity.

The minister said with successful initiatives such as Make in India and development in Rural Electrification the power demand shall surge manifolds.

NTPC has successfully proved its capability to deliver big projects and generating power in a reliable, efficient and affordable way, he added.

“Power sector in the country is focusing on sustainability of environment and NTPC has done a lot by preserving flora and fauna at all its power stations,” he said.

“The economy of India will grow by leaps and bound and in the same manner NTPC will fulfill the aspirations of all citizens,” he added.

He appreciated the public sector company for its largest 4,670 MW power station in Vindhyachal achieving 100.05 percent PLF and creating 114 MUs in a day on Thursday.

The coffee table book offers a glimpse of combined efforts of NTPC, which are in sync with national goals. Huge drives for plantation around projects, eco-rehabilitation of ash dykes, development of greenbelts, fruit gardens, medicinal plant gardens, eco parks, conservation of some endangered species shows the commitment of the organisation to the cause of environment conservation.
