John Chambers, the Executive Chairman of Cisco Systems Inc was in India during the creation of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF). An ardent admirer of India, its culture and its government’s strategy and vision, John Chambers is confident that India will figure among the top three economic powers in the next 10 to 15 years. He believes that the country’s strength lies in the democracy and the partnerships it has with other countries.

Chambers who is now the Chairman of USISPF declared that, ‘if he were to bet on one nation for future outside the US, it would be India.’ He predicted that India would turn out to be a role model for the world economies.

"You will not be a slow follower but a fast innovator. You will be the model for the rest of the world...India will be the example for the rest of the world not as an emerging country but as a developed country that reinvents itself again and again," he said at discussion on India-US Commercial and Strategic relationship.

When enquired by the media where he saw India in the next 10-15 years, with the flagship reforms of the present government, Make in India, Digital India and Smart Cities India, Chambers said, "India would not only be one of the three top economic powers of the world but grow with the strength of its democracy and partnerships.”

He also cautioned that the country could be left behind very quickly in the dynamic hi-tech industry. Praising the Prime Minister’s vision of Digital India as a ‘model for the world’, he said there are similar initiatives followed in other countries like France and Israel.

Chambers looked forward to a more dynamic and fulfilling relationship between India and the US, like meeting the needs of the economies, focussing on inclusion, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship and corporate responsibility.
