An Indian textile research institute has entered into an agreement for the setting up of skill development centres in Tajikistan. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Northern India Textile Research Association (NITRA) and Technological University of Tajikistan (TUT) at the sidelines of the CII’s TEXCON 2015 held in New Delhi on Friday. A 13-member Tajikistan industry delegation which attended the event also visited textile factories and premises of the Northern India Textile Research Association. As per the agreement, India will set up skill development centers for core textile mills across Tajikistan to impart training and skill development, CII said in a statement. Indian researchers and industrialists will share their expertise and knowledge with their Tajikistani counterparts through NITRA. Experts say that the move is likely to pave ways for the expansion of Indian textile exports market. According to Armen Zargaryan, leader of the Tajikistan delegation and coordinator of Geneva-based International Trade Center, India is “one of the knowledge centers in the world” and the agreement is expected to bring mutual benefits to both countries in terms of expansion of trade ties and markets in the next few years. Speaking to The Dollar Business, Abhijit Pal, Officiating Director of NITRA, clarified that the MoU is a “commercial tie up” and the “setting up of the skill development centre and its related activities are for Tajikistani benefit”. While the agreement is expected to enhance bilateral trade by bringing Tajikistan’s textile industries into limelight, it may also help India’s small and medium enterprises to enter Central Asian markets. At present, the total trade between the two countries is estimated at $58.09 million. The Tajikistani delegation is also expected to sign another MoU with the National Institute of Fashion Technology.
