Jet Airways to buy 75 new fuel-efficient planes from Boeing
The Dollar Business Bureau India’s private airline operator Jet Airways on Monday placed an order for 75 new fuel-efficient aircraft 737 MAX 8 from US manufacturer Boeing. The order announced at the 2015 Dubai Airshow is the largest ever in Jet Airway’s history and the airline will be the first operator in India to take delivery of Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes. “This order is an endorsement of our confidence in the long term prospects of the Indian aviation sector, which reflects the positive forecast for the country’s economy, and offers tremendous potential for growth and development,” said Naresh Goyal, chairman, Jet Airways. The 737 MAX 8 contain the latest technology CFM international LEAP-1B engines, advanced technology winglets with other improvements to deliver the highest efficiency, reliability and passenger comfort. “The new single-aisle airplane will deliver 20% lower fuel use than the first Next-Generation 737s and the lowest operating costs in its class – 8% per seat less than its nearest competitor,” Boeing said in a statement. “Boeing is proud that Jet Airways will be the first airline in India to take delivery of 737 MAX,” said Ray Conner, President and CEO, Boeing commercial Airplanes. Jet Airways is the second largest airline in India and offers services across domestic and international routes. According to the Cramer Ball, Chief Executive officer, Jet Airways, “These new generation aircraft are highly fuel efficient and will help drive our operational efficiency”.
