India could play a very important role in creating the solar energy development capacity over the extensive Sahara Desert, a land which is very much cultivable, said Mr Ekwow Spio Garbrah, Minister of Trade and Industry, Republic of Ghana.

The Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal, said that the African countries would get a lot of advantage by joining the International Solar Alliance, that is headquartered in New Delhi. He also pointed out that India and Africa should escalate their partnership in the enlargement of micro grids and off grids.
Adding to his statement he said India and Africa should grow the corporation for the cognizance of UN’s Sustainability Development Goals (SDG’s) before 2030.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Ekwow Spio Garbrah, Minister of Trade and Industry, Republic of Ghana said, "India could play a very important role in creating solar energy development capacity over Sahara Desert, a land which is very much cultivable". The African Minister also stressed that Africa is interested to share its cocoa growing expertise with India.
Mr James Wani Igga, Vice President, Republic of South Sudan, said that the investments from India should be directed towards areas where Africa enjoys a relatively greater advantage. He also pointed the role India has in developing Africa as whole alongwith the social strengthening message it sends with respect to women empowerment. The minister invited investments in South Sudan on agriculture, oil exploration, social service, infrastructure development and mining.
Dr Naushad Forbes, President Designate, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) & Co-Chairman, Forbes Marshall, said that CII would play an important role in capacity building in Africa in areas like agriculture, green building, and quality standards. He also spoke about the Business Forum which is coming up to mark the problems faced by Indian companies doing business in Africa.
The two day conclave that happened in New Delhi, saw participants of more than 500 delegates of various countries from the African continent.
