Lava to set up 2nd assembly unit in Noida

With the addition of second unit, the total production is likely to be near 2.5 million units.

In an effort to take the production capacity to the next level, Lava International Ltd, an Indian mobile phone making company, is planning to set up a second assembly facility in Greater Noida, revealed an official from the company.

The first assembly unit of the company, which is also located in Noida, has the capacity of producing 1 million units a month.

With the addition of second unit, the overall production is likely to be near 2.5 million units per month, said Luke Prakash, Senior Vice-President and Hub Head, Lava International Ltd.

The current capacity of the company is little above a million mobiles a month, he said.

In addition to the second unit, the company is also mulling plans to set up two Greenfield manufacturing projects, one at Yamuna Expressway and the other at Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. The Tirupati plant will be spread across 20-acre land. This will be Lava’s first facility in southern India.

The government of Uttar Pradesh has already sanctioned 25 acres of land for the Yamuna Expressway plant.

The total investments allocated for the plants are worth Rs.2,615 crore, revealed Solomon Wheeler, Vice-President and Head-Marketing and Communication.

In 2015-16, Lava earned a revenue of Rs.7,626 crore, an increase of 23 percent compared to the previous fiscal.

The company has been planning to expand its research and development base in a unit in Bengaluru. The investment earmarked for Bengaluru unit is worth Rs.200 crore.

Wheeler further stated that the company will not only meet the demands of domestic consumers, but also export products to Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Russia, Mexico and the United Arab Emirates.
