Led Expo 2016 unveils in Mumbai

Led Expo 2016 was unveiled on 12th of May in Mumbai. Led Expo is one of the largest exhibition and the only exhibition for LED lighting, products and technologies.

Over 160 exhibitors from 6 countries were present at the event. The expo covers all aspects of LED lightings and application that help in promoting energy efficient cost saving technologies. 

The inauguration of the event was done by Chief Guest Shri Chandrasekar Bawankulae, Minister of Energy, New and Renewable Energy, Government of Maharashtra and Guest of Honor Shri Nitin Gadre, IAS, Director General, Maharashtra Energy Development Agency (MEDA).

At the inauguration, Shri Bawankulae said, “Maharashtra Government is aiming to reduce the energy consumption by 35-50%. In order to achieve the same, the state should reach a position where it can charge Rs.85 for each LED bulb which is charged Rs.450 each.”

He also added, “By bringing together all the sector players in the market, there are possibilities to bring in more relevant products in the market and accelerate adoption of path breaking technologies.”

Further, he also said, “LED Expo should expand to cities like Nagpur, Pune, Aurangabad and other two tier cities. The main idea of the expo is to have subsidized energy and also save energy.”

Talking about conservation of energy he added that the government has already taken an initiative to replace the existing street lights with LED lights. Maharashtra government has also reduced the Vat on LED bulbs and tube lights to 5.5 percent from 12.5%.

The expo is being supported by Department of Industrial Policy and Regulation, Departments of Electronics and Information Technology, Maharashtra Energy Development Agency(MEDA), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Brihan Mumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking(BEST), Indian Building Congress, Electric Lamp and Component Manufacturers Association of India and Solar Energy Society of India.

To achieve the goal of reducing energy consumption, the Maharashtra Government has implemented “UJALA”, where each LED bulb will be charged Rs.100, whose original price would be Rs.450.

Apart from that MEDA has also taken many initiatives to help in the promotion of LED in the state. They have launched schemes for Municipal councils, Gram panchayats, Government buildings where installation of LED bulbs, tube lights, and street lights are needed.

The exhibition is being organized during the time when the government is pushing the use of LED bulbs for street lights, public space lighting and also for residential purposes. The expo is a three-day event happening at Goregaon Exhibition center in Mumbai from 12th May to 14th May 2016.
