LM Wind Power inaugurates second plant in India

LM Wind Power, the world's largest independent supplier of wind turbine rotor blades, announced the inauguration of its second plant in India on Wednesday.

The first announcement was made in November 2015. The Denmark-based company said in a release  that the manufacturing unit situated in Vadodara, Gujarat has begun production of wind turbine blades almost a month ahead of its schedule,.

The release quoted Marc de Jong, CEO, LM Wind Power as saying that the addition of a new plant in our manufacturing operations allows us to serve our growing base of customers in India.

“With this new manufacturing plant, we are able to create employment, provide advanced training and develop technical skills in Gujarat as well as help to create a clean renewable energy base in one of the fastest growing economies of the world,” Jong said in a statement.

Set up with an investment of 25 million euros, the new plant at Vadodara will supply rotor blades to the wind industry in the northern part of India and beyond. The main focus of the plant is the production of 60 meter long blades, with a possibility for expansion. Initially, the plant employed around 400 people with a possibility of increasing its size.

LM Wind Power has been in India since the early 1990s, the first international location outside Denmark. Currently, the company has an efficient manufacturing facility for blades in Dabaspet, Karnataka and a technical centre in Bangalore, for research, development and services.
