Maharashtra to set up Rs.300 crore garment park at Solapur

The Maharashtra government plans to set up a Rs.300 crore garment park at Solapur, the textile hub of Maharashtra.

Inaugurating the three-day International Exhibition on Uniform and Textile, State Textile Minister Subhash Deshmukh said the Government is in the process of acquiring the land, and the work the work will begin on January 26.

“The State government would provide infrastructure and all support to complete and launch this unique garment park,” he said.

Once the garment park is established, Solapur will become a major hub for providing uniforms to the Armed forces and police personnel in the country. Deshmukh requested organisers to host similar exhibitions outside the country to attract foreign investment.

The overall market size of uniform for school, corporate wear and government forces is worth over Rs.18,000 crore. Out of this, organised sector commands about Rs.10,000 crore.

Solapur already has over 1,000 garment making units creating uniforms worth Rs.1,100 crore. It employs more than 60,000 skilled labour.

Maharashtra’s Tourism Development Minister Jaykumar Rawal said that the government would extend extra support to attract tourists and investors in Solapur, as the location is in proximity to Mumbai, Pune and Hyderabad airports.

Bank of Maharashtra Chairman and Managing Director Ravindra Marathe said the bank will sanction spot loans of up to Rs.1 crore to encourage the local garments industry.
