
Maritime boundary in the Bay of Bengal between India & Bangladesh

In pursuance of Sub-Section (2) of Section 9 of the Territorial Waters, Continental Shelf, Exclusive Economic Zone and other Maritime Zones Act, 1976 (No. 80 of 1976) and in conformity of the Award of the Arbitral Tribunal established under Annex VII of the United Nations Convention on the Law of Sea (UNCLOS) in the matter of the Bay of Bengal Maritime Boundary Arbitration between the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and the Republic of India dated 7 July, 2014, the Central Government, hereby declares the maritime boundary in the Bay of Bengal between India and Bangladesh as follows, namely:
I. Land Boundary Terminus - The coordinates of the terminus of the land boundary between India and Bangladesh referred to in Everest and WGS 84 are as follows, namely:
II. Territorial sea - The maritime boundary between India and Bangladesh in the 12 (twelve) Nautical Mile Territorial Sea is defined by a line joining the LBT (210 38’40.2”N 890 09’ 20.0”E) and point 2 with coordinates (WGS 84) 210 26’ 43.6”N, 890 10’ 59.2” E.
III. Exclusive Economic Zone and Continental Shelf within 200 (Two Hundred) Nautical Miles - The single maritime boundary between India and Bangladesh in the Exclusive Economic Zone and continental shelf within 200 (two hundreds) nautical mile follows, namely:
(i) From the point 2 with coordinates (WGS 84) 210 26’ 43.6”N, 890 10’ 59.2”E a geodetic line until it reaches point 3 {with coordinates (WGS 84) 210 07’44.8”N, 890 13’ 56.5”E}; and
(ii) From point 3, a geodetic line with an azimuth of 1770 30’ 00”E until it meets the outer limit of India’s Exclusive Economic Zone and Continental Shelf within 200 (two hundreds) nautical miles at the point with coordinates (WGS 84) 180 04’10.2”N, 890 22’ 17.2”E.
IV. Continental Shelf beyond 200 (two hundred) Nautical Miles - The 1770 30’ 00” line continues in the same direction until it meets the maritime boundary between Bangladesh and Myanmar (at the point with coordinates (WGS 84) 160 43’ 28.74”N, 890 25’ 54.37”E).
