The Indian arm of Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC), Maruti Suzuki India contributed more than 50% to its parent company’s global sales in terms of volumes in the period April-December of the current fiscal.
SMC said that during April to December period of this fiscal, its Indian automobile sales stood at 10.61 lakh units, whereas its total global sales stood at 20.83 lakh units at 50.93%.
In the same period last fiscal, the company said that its sales in India stood at 9.72 lakh units out of an overall sales across the globe of 20.40 lakh units, making up for 47.64%.
SMC on Monday reported that the company’s consolidated operating income increased by 14.4% to 167.4 billion yen (around $1.49 billion) year-on-year basis largely owing to surge in automobile sales in Indian and European market, in spite of the impact of exchange rate.
However, the company’s consolidated net sales in the period April-December fell by 4.4% to 2,252 billion yen as against the same period of the last fiscal year.
This was largely on account of a decline in the domestic net sales in the Japanese market, which fell by 3.8% to 725.3 billion yen year-on-year, primarily owing to decline in OEM and minivehicle sales, though there has been an increase in sales of standard-sized and sub-compact vehicles.
Overseas net sales of the company have also fallen by 4.7% to 1,526.7 billion yen year-on-year, largely due to the decline in automobile sales in Pakistan and Indonesia and due to the impact of the exchange rates, although there has been an increase in automobile sales in regions including Europe and India , it said.
