National Agricultural e-commerce platform
The government has given its clearance to 12 states which would be merged with the National Agriculture Market. The Central Government has given its consent to the scheme for establishing the National Agriculture Market (NAM) with a Rs.200 crore budget.
The scheme predicts the execution of NAM by setting up e-market platforms which would be stationed in 585 wholesale markets both in the state and the union territories. This applies to those who would like to join the e-market platform.
The agency that is been selected to implement this program is the Small Farmers Agribusiness Consortium (SFAC). The software costs and its customisation is handled by the Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers Welfare (DAC&FW).
The latest news is that, the proposals from 12 States/UTs, which are UT of Chandigarh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh Haryana, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh are all for amalgamation of 365 mandis with NAM. They have been given approval by the Govt. and the grant has also been released to Telangana, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Jharkhand.
Grants for one time fixed cost for related equipment / infrastructure subjected to a ceiling of Rs 30 lakh per Mandi has also been given by the DAC&FW. The regulated markets which are to be incorporated with NAM will be proposed by the state government.
Simultaneously, other States like Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Odisha, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Andaman & Nicobar Islands Administration, UT of Puducherry, Manipur, Assam, Nagaland Arunachal Pradesh, and Mizoram have also indicated their willingness to join NAM.
The launch of NAM is expected to be done in April, on a pilot basis, temporarily in 20 mandis covering eight states.
