New software to ensure e-connectivity to agri markets

In a move to improve agriculture market across the country, the government on Thursday said that it will soon launch a new software which will connect agricultural markets with internet. Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, announced the initiative on Thursday at the launch of a horticulture university in Medak district, Telangana. Speaking at the foundation ceremony of Konda Laxman Telangana State Horticulture University, Singh expressed hope that the new software would break the virtual and connectivity barriers of agricultural markets and will ensure fair prices to the farmers. “Karnataka was able to bring fifty agricultural markets on one platform for the benefit of farmers. Twelve states including Telangana have sent proposals regarding this and the centre will sanction Rs. 30 lakh to each agricultural market,” he added. Stating that growth and development of agriculture in India is considerably driven by institutions of higher agricultural education and research, the Minister exuded confidence that the establishment of this university would give a boost to the agricultural education and agriculture in general and horticulture in particular. The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Bandaru Dattatreya, and Chief Minister of Telangana K Chandrasekhar Rao urged the Centre to help in transforming the new state as ‘seed bowl’ of India. In the annual budget for 2015-16, Finance Minister had announced the setting up of a horticultural university in Telangana along with the one in Haryana and two agricultural universities in Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan. In the current financial year, Rs.75 crore has been allocated for this purpose, of which, Rs.37.5 crore has been released.
