Nissan Motor India, the arm of Japanese automaker Nissan Motor Company, on Wednesday said that it is expecting about 20 percent growth in sales in the North-East region of India during the current financial year.

Arun Malhotra, Managing Director, Nissan Motor India said that the North-Eastern region market has a vast potential. However, there are a few hurdles, but the market is good for cars in the smaller segment. We are strongly focussing on this market.

The region contributed about 3-4 percent to the company’s domestic sales of 42,000 units during the last fiscal year, he informed.

"The North-Eastern market is growing. We are expecting a growth of 20 percent in our sales during the ongoing financial year and it will make up to around 5 percent of our nationwide sales," he added.

To drive the growth in this region, Nissan Motors will increase the number of its sales outlet during the year 2016-17.

Malhotra said, “At present, the company has 14 outlets in the seven north eastern states. By the end of current fiscal, we will increase our number of outlets to 22.”

Nissan also launched a new dealership store in Shillong (Meghalaya) on Wednesday. The new outlet is the primary dealership from the company in the state.

The company has 219 outlets all over India and is planning to increase its numbers to around 300 by the end of 2016-17, Malhotra added.
