Barrack Obama will be travelling to China next month to attend the G-20 meeting. Prime Minister Narendra Modi too will be attending the meet.

Releasing the customary White House statement, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said, “ This trip will highlight the President’s ongoing commitment to the G-20 as the premier forum for international economic cooperation as well as the US Rebalance to Asia and the Pacific.”

The US President is likely to meet PM Modi and other leaders during the meet though there is no official confirmation about this from the White House, but was made evident by PM Modi during his media interaction in US.

Obama’s agenda is more towards focussing on the need to build and follow up a strong, sustainable and balanced global economic growth

The President will also tour Asia from September 2 to 9. This would be his first week-long Asia trip  and also the first for a US President to participate in the US-ASEAN summit and the East Asia Summit. The President is also likely to have bilateral meetings with the President of Laos, Bounnhang Vorachith on matters of economic, development and people to people cooperation between the two countries.

Southeast Asian countries collectively represent America’s fourth largest trading partner and  this is indicative whey the President’s visit would play a vital role in strengthening economic cooperation between them.

The Press Secretary also said that the President at the East Asia Summit will coordinate with regional leaders to promote a rules-based international order. This visit will highlight US’s efforts to expand opportunities of American businesses and its workforce in the region now considered to be one of the world’s fastest growing markets.

"Central to this effort is the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the high-standards trade agreement that will unlock key markets to American exports and cement America’s economic leadership in the Asia-Pacific," Earnest said.
