Pharmexcil hopes for a World Pharma Trade Centre within city limits of Hyderabad

Pharmexcil’s Director General, Dr P V Appaji hopes that the Ministry of Commerce, will prevail upon the Telangana Chief Minister to make the World Pharma Trade Centre a reality within the city limits of Hyderabad.

  Jayarama Emani | The Dollar Business Pharma City Recently, the Telangana Chief Minister, K Chandrasekhar Rao announced that the State government is planning to set up an international-level Pharma University and a Pharma City in over 11,000 acres area at Mucherla (outskirts of Hyderabad). The annoucement was made during The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Telangana chapter’s first-ever conference on mapping industrial growth in the newly formed State. When informed about the same, Dr P V Appaji, Director General, Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) welcoming the news told The Dollar Business, “We are happy that the State is promoting the pharma sector in a big way, however, it would be nice if the government can consider our proposal for a World Pharma Trade Centre either at Raidurg near the Financial District or at Khanamet near Hi-Tec for which we have been having discussions with the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation and other industry officials.” “An exclusive facility in a three-acre land within the city limits will be of great help logistically for our members and at the same time for overseas stakeholders too,” he said, and added “the 11,000 acre facility can be part of an extension counter which, would at least take five to 8-10 years for completion and development.” Dr Appaji expressed hope that Pharmexcil’s parent body, the Ministry of Commerce, will prevail upon the Telangana Chief Minister to make the World Pharma Trade Centre a reality within the city limits of Hyderabad which, is still considered to be the pharma hub of the nation. Meanwhile, Pharmexcil has acquired two acres of land in the Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City, at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh to set up a facility. The new facility according to Dr Appaji will be used as a National level skill development centre for fostering the pharmaceutical industry.
