Power Series Conclave Edition 1 – Boosting Make-in-India

The first edition of The Dollar Business Power Series Conclave 2016-2017 was successfully unveiled on Thursday. The conclave had speakers and audience from all fields, who deliberated on Make(ing) in India an ‘Export Manufacturing Superpower’.
The event kicked off on a high note with the surprise entry of Upasana Kamineni, Vice Chairperson-CSR, Apollo Hospitals and MD, Apollo Life. After lighting the lamp for the prestigious event, Kamineni shed light on the importance of export and import in the medical sector in India, which is the fastest growing economy in the world.
The honourable panelists, included Ajay Sahai, Director General and CEO of FIEO, Georges de La Roche, Ambassador of Guatemala to India, Anil Rajvanshi, Head of Corporate Affairs and Senior EVP at Reliance Industries, Anil Reddy Vennam, President of The Federation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Kiran V, GM-International Marketing, Bharat Electronics, Dr. Mahesh Balgat, Executive Director and COO, Shantha Biotechnics, Prakash Ammanabolu, President of Telangana State Federation of Textile Association, and Dr. AK Sengupta, Chief Consulting Editor of TDB, making it a starry affair. The crowd present at the conclave belonged to diverse industries and different sectors of trade.
The conclave focused on pertinent areas of manufacturing and attempt to explore the opportunities to boost the manufacturing and export sector.
Addressing the audience and the panellists, Steven Phillip Warner, President and Editor-in-Chief of TDB, emphasised the need to give more push to high-tech manufacturing in India’s total exports. He further expounded about the effective and modern Exim solutions.
Rajvanshi, Chairman of Synthetics & Rayon Export Promotion Council, detailed how the Indian export community could tackle tariff and non-tariff barriers in trade.
Sahai remarking on the new Foreign Trade Policy said, to achieve th ambitious targethe Indian government aims to double the country's goods and services exports by 2020, the country’s manufacturing growth should be improved. Only the manufacturing sector can sustain exports from India. Sahai elucidated the strategies that could be adopted by exporters and manufacturers and take advantage of the ‘Make in India’ initiatives given by the Govt, Georges de La Roche's touching Guatemala’s Look-East-Act-East Policy stressed on the need of growth in India’s relations with Guatemala. Proving his affinity towards India, Georges very interestingly titled his presentation as ‘From Rotis to Tortillas to Tacos and back'.
Anil Reddy Vennam stressed on the need to get manufacturing exposed to global opportunities. Kiran V, gave a wonderful glimpse on Indigenous Design Development and Manufacturing. Dr Mahesh Balgat, who represented Shantha Biotechnics, a Sanofi company, put across his views on how the pharma and biotech industry is sustaining its repute via ‘Make in India’.
Prakash Ammanabolu said, “In 2015, India received $63 billion in the form of Foreign Direct Investments, surpassing China and USA.”
Dr Sengupta, former dean of IIFT, summed up the crucial role played by Micro Small and Medium Enterprises in ‘Make in India’ and their contribution towards GDP.
With a view to developing strategies to contribute towards the growth of India, the discussions at the Power Series Conclave, which was held at Marriott, Hyderabad, urged for a positive change in the country’s Make-in-India strategies and the challenges faced by traders.
With some crucial discussions on the challenges that hindered India from becoming a global leader and attempts to overcome them, the Conclave justified its name- POWER SERIES.
