Service tax waived for online train booking

Railway tickets booked online through the IRCTC website will not attract any service charge from November 23 to December 31. The Govt has waived the service tax to encourage cashless transactions due to demonetisation, a railway official announced to the media.
"Service tax will not be levied on tickets booked through the IRCTC website from November 23 to December 31."
Rs.20 is levied as service charge on sleeper classes while Rs.40 is levied on AC classes when booking online. Passengers can now travel cheaper till the end of this year the railway official said.
