Special scheme to boost apparel exports
The Dollar Business Bureau
To give a boost to apparel exports the Central Govt has announced a scheme allowing duty-free import of fabrics.
Under the Special Advance Authorisation Scheme for export of Articles of Apparel and Clothing Accessories, the Government has decided to allow duty free imports on certain type of products said the DGFT, which will come into effect from September 1.
Under this scheme exporters are entitled for an authorisation for the import of relevant fabrics including inter lining only as input on pre-import basis and an all industry rate of duty drawback on non-fabric inputs on the exports.
This is a remarkable move as recently the Union Cabinet had approved a Rs 6,000 crore package for the Textiles sector in order to create more jobs and attract FDI’s of $11 bn. Such moves are needed in other sectors like the pharma, steel etc that are in dire need of a push from the Govt.
The country’s textiles and apparel exports are likely to touch $50 bn mark this fiscal from $38 bn in 2015-16.
