Germany to develop Kochi, Coimbatore and Bhubaneshwar as smart cities

India is the biggest partner of Germanys development cooperation programme across the world. France pledges 2 billion euro for smart cities

The Dollar Business Bureau France has committed investments up to 2 billion euro for the development of smart cities in India. The investments will be meant to convert Chandigarh, Nagpur and Puducherry into smart cities, French Ambassador in India Francois Richier said on Wednesday. “Also, there is an investment of another 200 million euros for the extension of Bangalore metro,” he said. During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to France in April, the country had committed 600 million euro for smart cities and other projects related to sustainability, including in renewable energy and energy efficiency. Rs 1 lakh crore to be spent on urban development over five years

 The Dollar Business Bureau The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday, gave its approval for the Smart Cities Mission and the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation of 500 cities (AMRUT). Individual outlays of Rs 48,000 crore and Rs 50,000 crore have been approved for spending under the two missions for the development of ‘smart cities’. Besides this, the Union Cabinet also gave its approval for the Central Government to spend over Rs 1 lakh crore on urban development over the next five years, under two new urban missions.
