Govt undertakes revival of closed fertilizer projects to make India self-reliant
The Dollar Business Bureau A Joint review meeting on revival plans for closed fertilizer projects was held today, to realise PM Narendra Modi's vision of ‘Fertilizer Security for Food Security'. The two-pronged strategy includes existing fertilizer capacity augmentation by increasing the efficiency of the plants and revival of closed fertilizer projects. "With the revival of the fertilizer projects, Gorakhpur, Barauni, Sindri and Talcher, an additional annual production capacity of 75 LMT would be created making India self-reliant in meeting the annual domestic demand of around 320 LMT, from being a net importer currently," Ananthkumar, Union Minister for Chemicals & Fertilizers and Parliamentary Affairs said, after the meeting. Govt assures fertilisers industry of multifarious support
The Dollar Business Bureau Inaugurating the annual seminar of Fertiliser Association of India (FAI), the Chemicals and Fertilisers and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar on Thursday said the present government will continue to take adequate measures to ensure that the country’s fertiliser industry remains on the growth path. Indian industry registered a record production of urea during the financial year 2015-16. He acknowledged the industry’s long-pending demand of payment of balance (10%) subsidy, revision of fixed cost for indigenous urea industry and clearance of backlog subsidy of previous years. He assured that the government is taking adequate efforts to resolve these issues during the current financial year. Non- urea fertilizers prices slashed
The Dollar Business Bureau Union Minister Ananth Kumar said that the retail prices of non-urea fertilizers including the DAP have been reduced by up to Rs 5000 per tonne. The decision comes following the global prices of raw materials. The minister said that the state-run fertiliser firms Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers (RCF), National Fertilizers Ltd (NFL) and also private firm Indian Potash Ltd (IPL) have decided to reduce the cost of non-urea fertilizer. The retail price of Muriate of Potash (MoP) has been brought down by Rs 5,000 to Rs 11,000/tonne, Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) by Rs 2,500 to Rs 22,000/tonne, while complex fertilizers rates have been brought down by Rs 1,000/tonne. The Dollar Business Bureau Chemicals & Fertilisers Minister Ananth Kumar asked the chemicals and petrochemicals industry to target an annual growth rate of 14.7 percent so as to double its production in the next 5 years and said the government will support the industry’s growth story. While speaking at the “CHEMINAR-2016” in New Delhi on Friday, Kumar said, “India’s chemicals and petrochemicals industry is growing at the rate of 11–12 percent and has a production of worth $200 billion per year.
