As per data maintained by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), air freight handled at Indian airports grew by more than 20 times from 0.08 million metric tonnes in 1972-73 to 2.5 million metric tonnes in 2014-15, and its compound annual growth rate (CAGR) was 8.8% during 2013-14 to 2016-17. Measured in million tonne-kilometers, the data maintained by the World Bank also shows that air freight transported by India went up from 96.3 million tonne-kilometers in 1970 to 1,833.8 million tonne-kilometers in 2015. China's first large passenger plane makes maiden flight
PTI China's first large homemade passenger jet, touted as a competitor to Boeing and Airbus, made its maiden flight today, heralding the Communist giant's entry into the highly-competitive global aviation sector. The 158-seater C919 aircraft took to the skies from Shanghai Pudong International Airport in eastern China and made the country the fourth jumbo jet producer after the US, Europe and Russia, the state media reported. The 80-minute flight was greeted with applause by more than 1,000 spectators on the tarmac, including Chinese Vice Premier Ma Kai and Shanghai Party chief Han Zheng. Source: PTI Ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the US, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Tuesday cleared a multi-billion dollar deal for 22 Apache attack helicopters and 15 Chinook heavy-lift choppers with American aviation giant Boeing. “The deal for Apache and Chinook (helicopters) has been cleared,” government sources said. The CCS met after a Cabinet meeting, they said. Oil companies slash jet fuel price by 11.7%
Source: PTI ATF or jet fuel price was on Tuesday slashed by a steep 11.7% while rates of non-subsidised cooking gas LPG were reduced by Rs.25.5 per cylinder in line with dip in international prices. Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) price in Delhi was cut by Rs.5,469.12 per kilolitre (kl), or 11.7%, to Rs.40,938.24 per kl, oil companies announced on Tuesday. This is one of the steepest reductions, the biggest being a cut of Rs.7,520 per kl, or 12.5%, on January 1. Prior to Tuesday's reduction, jet fuel rate was cut by 9.4% to Rs.46,407.36 on August 1 and by Rs.2,086.56 per kl to Rs.51,267.36 on July 1.
