The numbers are not very encouraging, and it currently takes about 9-10 days to get a container out of the port and on its way to the manufacturer. Cargo volume at 12 major ports up by 6.3% in April 2017
The Dollar Business Bureau April 2017 saw an increase in cargo movement at India's 12 major ports, which handled a total capacity of 55.75 million tonnes (mt) during the month. An increase of 6.27% was recorded, in comparison with the cargo volume reported in April 2016, which stood at 52.46 mt. The increase in cargo traffic was attributed to the rising demand demonstrated for raw materials like iron ore and coking coal. During the month, Iron ore volumes spiked by 40% to 5.37 mt while coking coal traffic grew by 15% to 4.61 mt. Chennai Intl terminal sets new productivity record for South and East India
The Dollar Business Bureau Chennai International Terminals Pvt Ltd (CITPL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of PSA International Pte Ltd, set a new productivity record for container terminals in South and East India on 14 August 2016 when it achieved a vessel productivity rate of 169 moves per hour, by handling 1984 box moves in just under 12 hours for Bengal Tiger Line’s vessel ‘MV Euromax’. Kamarajar to act as an alternative for Chennai Port
The Dollar Business Bureau In order to prevent the traffic congestion at Chennai Port, the traders will be using Kamarajar Port Ltd (KPL) as an alternative way to ship their products to other ports starting this Friday. The KPL will spend Rs.20 crore for deepening the creek to increase the flow of water from the port to the sea. After receiving the necessary approvals, the awarded agency would start work on this project. Generally, it takes three or four days for container-laden vehicles to reach Chennai Port Trust after getting various clearances at different Container Freight Stations. Container movements at ports up 1.92% during April-October
The Dollar Business Bureau Container movements at major government-run ports have increased marginally by 1.92% between April and October this year despite the continuous decline in India’s outbound shipments. According to the Federation of Indian Export Organsiations (FIEO), 12 major state-owned ports have collectively handled 4.76 million 20-foot-equivalent units (TEUs) during April-October period, up 1.92% from last year’s 4.67 million TEUs. During the first seven months of 2015-16, two of India’s largest ports— Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) and Chennai Port – together accounted for about 80% of India’s total containerised cargo traffic moving through ports. CONCOR starts new weekly train between Krishnapatnam Port and ICD Whitefield
Sisir Pradhan | The Dollar Business Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) has started a new train weekly service between Krishnapatnam Port Container Terminal (KPCT) and Inland Container Depot (ICD) at Whitefield in Bengaluru. The new freight train service started its maiden run on June 19, 2015 with a full load of import laden containers belonging to traders in Bengaluru city region. Multi-purpose berths at six major ports to boost international trade
The Dollar Business Bureau In an effort to boost international trade, the government has decided to develop multi-purpose berths at six major ports with an investment of more than Rs 1,600 crore in the next three years. The move is aimed at increasing the ports cargo handling capacity and reducing the turn-around time for commercial vessels at Indian coasts. “These projects will enhance the capacity of respective ports to handle a variety of cargoes and meet the requirement of the trade,” said Pon Radhakrishnan, Minister of State for Shipping. The project will cover Odisha’s Paradip Port in eastern coast and Goa’s Mormugao Port in western coast.
