Pakistan lifts ban on Indian cotton imports

PTI Pakistan has lifted an "undeclared" ban on import of ginned cotton from India, days after rejecting a consignment of 10,000 bales of cotton from India citing violation of plant quarantine rules by importers. Earlier, the Department of Plant Protection (DPP) of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research put cotton imports from India on hold through Wagah and Karachi port from November 23, saying the shipments did not fulfil phyto- sanitary conditions, Dawn newspaper reported.The rising border tensions between the two neighbours had prompted Islamabad to impose the ban on 10,000 bales of cotton worth $3.3 million from India."The DPP has started issuing permits for importing cotton from India via Wagah. Govt extends export entitlement quota on garments, yarn for 1 yr

The Dollar Business Bureau  Government has extended the entitlement quota for one year in the export of readymade garments, knitwear, yarn, fabrics and made-ups to the countries of Canada, US, and European Union. This will be effective from January 1, 2017. “The government hereby decides to extend the operation of the residuary provisions of yarn, fabrics & made-ups export entitlement (quota) policy for a further one year with effect from January 1, 2017,” the Textiles Ministry said in a notification. Likewise, the government has also extended the operations of residuary provisions of export entitlement quota policy of garments and knitwears for another year, which will be effective from January 1, 2017. Indias cotton exports suffer due to cash crunch

Slow consumption growth could hit Indian spinners

The Dollar Business Bureau Indian credit rating agency (ICRA) on Wednesday expressed concerns over limited growth in domestic consumption and exports of spun yarn and said a similar outcome in the financial year 2016-17 will pose a serious challenge for the Indian textile spinners. The report indicated that a tepid domestic consumption and subsiding exports of yarn will deter its volume growth as well as profitability of spinners. “The slow pace of growth in spun yarn production has been driven by factors like tepid domestic consumption and limited growth in exports. With cautious outlook on cotton yarn exports, domestic demand growth will determine the production growth going forward,” the agency said in its report.
