Indias cotton production to grow 3.8% in 2016-17
The Dollar Business Bureau India’s cotton production is expected to increase by 3.8% in 2016-17 from a year ago period due to a sharp growth in yield in the aftermath of a favorable monsoon. On Monday, the Cotton Advisory Board (CAB) held a meeting, during which it estimated that the domestic cotton production could reach 35.1 million bales of 170 kg each for the cotton year 2016-17. The cotton year starts on October 1st every year. The output of cotton was 33.8 million bales last year. The total area under cultivation has fallen to 8.61 million hectare in 2016-17 from 10.68 million hectares in 2015-16. APTMA urges cotton export to India be put on hold

The industry body is urging to protect the interests of Pakistan textile industry. Cotton exports to India without determination of the crop size for FY 2016-17 will hurt the textile industry in Pakistan, APTMA Chairman Tariq Saud said. The industry has already been burdened with 35% decrease in cotton crop production in the country during FY 2015-16. The industry body has put April estimate of cotton output at 341.50 lakh bales (1 bale = 170 kgs) for 2015-16 crop year (October-September). The overall output of cotton for the crop year 2014-15 was 382.75 lakh bales, the Association said in a statement. The lower estimate is primarily due to the damage caused to the crops by white-flies this year, in the northern region of the country. Slow consumption growth could hit Indian spinners
The Dollar Business Bureau Indian credit rating agency (ICRA) on Wednesday expressed concerns over limited growth in domestic consumption and exports of spun yarn and said a similar outcome in the financial year 2016-17 will pose a serious challenge for the Indian textile spinners. The report indicated that a tepid domestic consumption and subsiding exports of yarn will deter its volume growth as well as profitability of spinners. “The slow pace of growth in spun yarn production has been driven by factors like tepid domestic consumption and limited growth in exports. With cautious outlook on cotton yarn exports, domestic demand growth will determine the production growth going forward,” the agency said in its report. Govt to set up three textile parks in each state to promote industry

We urge the state governments to participate in this mission and promote domestic production.
