The Dollar Business Bureau The Central Board of Excise & Customs circular, dated April 10th 2017, has issued a notification with respect to difficulties faced by manufacturers (EOUs/EHTP/STP units) when availing a certificate from the jurisdictional Development Commissioner regarding duty if the manufacturers have procured goods from indigenous sources. The Dollar Business Bureau Smuggling and illegal trade of tobacco products in India has posed a grave concern for the government as the legal imports of cigarettes was lower than the coming of cigarettes through illegal routes, Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Monday. “More smuggled cigarettes are coming into India with the amount being detected being worth Rs 162 crore in last financial year, which was more than legal imports into the country,” she told the Lok Sabha during Question Hour. A duty of up to $1.77 per kg of import will be levied on all forms of processed Vitamin E shipped in to India from China, the Customs Department said in a notification issued on Wednesday. However, the product in its natural form has been exempted from anti-dumping duty, the notification said. The Finance Ministry had imposed the duty on Chinese Vitamin E in March 2009 for five years and later extended till March 2015.
