India, other EAS nations call for nuclear disarmament
PTI India and other leaders of the 18- member East Asia Summit reaffirmed their support to promote nuclear disarmament and nuclear non-proliferation as they underlined the importance of nuclear security to combat nuclear terrorism at national, regional and global levels. The countries emphasised the importance of advancing nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation and peaceful uses of nuclear energy as 'mutually reinforcing pillars'. Recognising the serious challenges posed by nuclear terrorism, the countries reaffirmed their support to promote nuclear disarmament, nuclear non-proliferation and peaceful uses of nuclear energy and the importance of nuclear security to combat nuclear terrorism at national, regional and international levels. The Dollar Business Bureau President Pranab Mukherjee, on Thursday, stated that India and China are set to play a “significant and constructive” role in the 21st century.
