Cheap edible oil imports from Malaysia, Brazil, Indonesia and Argentina are crushing the demand of local oilseeds like rapeseed and soybeans while farmers are struggling to compete with them. The prices of local oilseeds slumped to a new low, over the past 14 months due to bumper crop production. Wheat procurement touches 30.1 MT till date

But this year procurement of wheat was taken up a month earlier by the Food Corporation of India. Till now about 30.1 MT of wheat has been procured by the FCI and other state agencies in the ongoing rabi marketing season of 2017-18. This is far beyond last year's total purchase of 22.9 MT of wheat. Area under horticulture crops recording an increase of 1.9% over previous year

These estimates are based on the information received from different State/UTs in the country. The production of horticulture crops in the country during 2016-17 is estimated to be more than 295 million tonnes which 3.2 % higher as compared to the previous year’s 2015-16 estimates. The area under horticulture crops has increased from 245 lakh ha to 249 lakh ha in 2016-17 recording an increase of 1.9% over previous year. Sugar price rise 'inevitable' due to sugarcane FRP hike: NFCSF

The Registrar of Geographical Indications Registry, Chennai, O P Gupta has accorded the registration following an application from Horticulture Commissioner, Andhra Pradesh.
