The Dollar Business Bureau  The Government of India is considering levying duty on wheat imports in order to safeguard the farmers amid the predictions of a record production this year, the Agriculture Secretary Shobhana K Pattanayak said on Wednesday. On December 8th last year, the government had reduced the customs duty on the imports of wheat to nil from 10% in order to boost availability of the grain in the domestic market and to check the retail prices. Govt procures 3273 tons of moong at MSP and bonus rate

The Dollar Business Bureau The Government has procured 3,273 tonnes of moong from farmers at the minimum support price (MSP) and bonus rate to protect their interest. "Since the start of arrival of new crop in the market, the Government agencies have procured 3273.16 MT Moong as on Sept 19, 2016 benefiting 330 farmers," said the food ministry in a statement. The Government agencies –Food Corporation of India (FCI), National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd. Wheat procurement falls, but no shortage: FCI

About 22.9 million tonnes has been collected so far for FY2016-17 due to lower output even as the forecasted estimates were high and the process of purchase is at its culmination stage. The bulk procurement is usually completed between April- June. Indian govt orders import of 12,500 MT pulses

The Dollar Business Bureau  The Government of India has ordered an import of 12,500 MT of pulses to create a buffer stock, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution said in a statement on Tuesday.  The buffer stock included 10,000 MT of masoor dal (split red lentil) and 2,500 MT urad dal (split black gram). India has already imported 14,321 MT of pulses till now out of the total import quantity of 38,500 MT, through government agencies. As on Monday the Indian government has procured 64,000 MT of rabi pulses. India signs deals to import 5 lakh tonnes wheat

The Dollar Business Bureau The flour mills in India have signed deals to buy 5 lakh tonnes of wheat from France and Australia, for delivery between July-September, in the wake of a possible shortfall in domestic production, due to severe drought. Last year alone, private flour mills had imported around 5 lakh tonnes of wheat from Australia; huge import for the first time in the last 10 years because of slow supply of high protein wheat from local markets and lower global prices.  According to some traders, India is expected to import wheat, somewhere between 3 and 5 million tonnes, and the imports duty will reduce by 25%. Over 20 lakh tonnes wheat arrives in Haryana

Source: PTI Wheat arrival in Haryana reached 20,45,856 tonnes in the ongoing rabi marketing season. Out of total arrival, 20,45,665 tonnes of wheat has been purchased by the government procurement agencies at Minimum Support Price, said a spokesman of the Food and Supplies Department. Giving details of the wheat procured by government agencies, he said 5,97,847 tonnes of wheat has been procured by Food and Supplies Department, whereas HAFED has procured 6,14,379 tonnes of wheat. He said Food Corporation of India has purchased 2,39,290 tones of wheat, Haryana Agro Industries Corporation 1,71,299 tonnes and 4,22,850 tonnes of wheat has been procured by Haryana Warehousing Corporation. He said that apart from this, 191 tonnes of wheat has been procured by traders.
