The Dollar Business Bureau  India exported around nearly 11 lakh tonnes of meat for Rs 22,074 crore in the period between April and January in the financial year of 2017, informed Minister of Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman in a written reply to the Lok Sabha. As per the data, India’s meat exports stood at Rs 27,610 crore in the financial year of 2015-16 followed by Rs 30,201 crore and Rs 27,720 crore of exports in 2014-15 and in 2013-14 respectively. At present, India has as many as 81 companies involved in meat processing and its exports. PTI Food regulator FSSAI today said it will simplify and streamline the regulations related to the food service industry for effective compliance and look into concerns over multiple agencies governing the sector. Addressing a FICCI's conference on food service retail, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) CEO Pawan Agarwal said food business operators will have to appoint a food safety supervisor to ensure that consumers get safe and wholesome food. It is planning to reach Rs.100 crore in revenues by 2020, by ramping up its distribution to 5,000 outlets. The Dollar Business Bureau To mull over use of ethylene gas in the ripening of fruits and vegetables, the food safety regulator FSSAI has invited comments from public to make amendments. The statement said that fruit can be ripened artificially with the help of ethylene gas at a concentration of 100 ppm depending upon the nature of the crop. Ethylene can quicken the process of ripening of climatic fruits even after they are being picked from the plant. It is commonly used in bananas, when they are picked raw but ripened with the help of the gas after shipment.
