US approves $75 mn chemical protective gear for Indian soldiers

PTI The US has approved $75 million high-tech chemical protective clothing for the Indian armed forces that will protect soldiers against biological and chemical warfare. The Joint Service Lightweight Integrated Suit Technology (JSLIST) consists of 38,034 each: suits, pairs of trousers, pairs of gloves, pairs of boots and NBC bags; 854 aprons; 854 alternative aprons; 9,509 Quick Doff Hoods; and 114,102 M61 filters. The entire package also includes 38,034 M50 general purpose masks. The Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) made a notification to the Congress on May 10 after the State Department made a determination in this regard. Trump initiates probe into causes for $700 bn trade deficit

The Dollar Business Bureau In another executive order signed by Donald Trump, the Department of Commerce and the Office of  USTR (US Trade Representative) have been asked to submit, within 90 days, a comprehensive report on the causes of USA's $700 billion trade deficit. Commerce Secretary, Wilbur Ross, is to lead the said investigation of unfair trade practices hurting the US economy. Threatening countries which get away with violating import duties, Trump asserted that a detailed investigation of trade abuses will be done, following which stringent laws will be put in place to prevent them. Tamil Nadu attracts over $4 bn investments from US firms

The Dollar Business Bureau Tamil Nadu has attracted huge investments worth more than $4 billion from US firms in various sectors including automobiles, textiles and pharmaceutical sectors. This was revealed by the Tamil Nadu Industries Minister M C Sampath during a conference hosted by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce in Chennai on Tuesday. The minister said that the US and the state of Tamil Nadu share good trade relations. Around 250 US business firms have their presence in this state providing direct employment to over 1.75 lakh people and indirect employment to more than 2.50 lakh people. PTI The US is working "very hard" on changing its "outdated" export control policy on India as the two strategic partners seek to continue working together on a large number of projects, including in the military sector, Defence Secretary Ashton Carter said today. "The United States is working very hard on changing India's status in the US export system which is also somewhat outdated," he said in response to a question on what was expected from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the US next week. India, US to discuss H-1B visa fee hike

The Dollar Business Bureau   India hopes that the deliberations during the WTO consultations turn out to be constructive, and subsequently result in removal of certain trade restrictions. “India hopes that the US will constructively engage with India to address its concerns regarding recent US measures which impair the ability of both US-based Indian companies and Indian professionals to supply services in the US,” the Commerce Ministry said in a statement.
