Indias proposal on services trade gets mixed response at WTO

The Dollar Business Bureau India’s proposal on Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) in Services at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) has got mixed response from the member nations, Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has informed the Parliament. India had circulated the proposed draft text on the TFA in Services at WTO in February this year. The draft has been discussed at relevant bodies of the WTO, said Sitharaman said in a written response to the Rajya Sabha. The proposal offers an outline for addressing various barriers to trade in services in a holistic and comprehensive manner, she said. “India’s proposal received a mixed response from the WTO members. India, Russia entered into 2nd stage of talks for fighter aircraft

The Dollar Business Bureau India and Russia have moved to the second stage of discussions to sign a contract for the joint development of the Fifth-Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) and both the sides will ink a contract very soon, said a top Russian official. Russian state corporation Rostec’s CEO Sergei Chemezov said that all the decisions for jointly developing the FGFA will be finished in the ‘nearest future’.  In 2007, India and Russia had signed an inter-governmental agreement for the multi billion dollar FGFA project. “As for the 5th generation (fighter aircraft) - the work is underway. US Committee says Indian policies are discriminating against US exports and investments

The Dollar Business Bureau The influential House Appropriations Committee in its report accompanying the annual Appropriations Bill 2018, said that several policies adopted by the Indian government to boost its economic growth, protect domestic manufacturing, actually discriminated against US exports and investments. 'India, while striving to improve its economic growth, has been enacting a series of policies to increase domestic manufacturing and protect domestic industries and agricultural production that discriminate against US exports and investment,' the Committee said. Cabinet approves MoU with Australia on cooperation in textiles

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the MoU on cooperation in the textiles, clothing and fashion sectors between the Ministry of Textiles and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australia, an official statement said on Thursday. “The MoU will enable cooperation with regards to matters within the fashion and textiles sectors which may be of mutual benefit and interest to the participants,” it added. The Registrar of Geographical Indications Registry, Chennai, O P Gupta has accorded the registration following an application from Horticulture Commissioner, Andhra Pradesh. The Andhra Pradesh government is the registered proprietor of the GI tag for mangoes, often hailed as "the king of fruits."  A GI tag indicates that the product comes from a specific region. India ranks 43 out of 45 nations in global innovation index

PTI India ranks abysmally at 43 out of 45 countries in a global innovation index, according to a report released by the US Chambers of Commerce which cited the country's "anaemic" Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) policy and patent act as challenges to innovation. In the 5th annual International IP Index 'The Roots of Innovation' by US Chamber of Commerce's Global Intellectual Property Center (GIPC), there is slight improvement in India s performance; it was ranked last or next-to-last in the previous four years.
