India, Russia entered into 2nd stage of talks for fighter aircraft

The Dollar Business Bureau India and Russia have moved to the second stage of discussions to sign a contract for the joint development of the Fifth-Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) and both the sides will ink a contract very soon, said a top Russian official. Russian state corporation Rostec’s CEO Sergei Chemezov said that all the decisions for jointly developing the FGFA will be finished in the ‘nearest future’.  In 2007, India and Russia had signed an inter-governmental agreement for the multi billion dollar FGFA project. “As for the 5th generation (fighter aircraft) - the work is underway. Goa procures additional beef from Karnataka: Parrikar

The Dollar Business Bureau Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said on Tuesday that the state-run slaughterhouses produces about 2,000 kg of beef a day and the additional demand for beef in the state is met by importing it from neighbouring state like Karnataka. In a reply to question by a BJP member in state assembly, over the beef quality supplied by the neighbouring state, Parrikar said that the beef procured from Karnataka would be put to proper process of inspection. “Approximately 2,000 kg beef is produced per day at the state abattoir - the Goa Meat Complex Limited, while rest of beef is brought in from Karnataka,” said the Chief Minister, who also holds the portfolio of animal husbandry. “The projected beef sale in the ...

India encouraging global defence companies to set up units

PTI India is formulating policy to help major global defence companies set up manufacturing units in the country in collaboration with Indian firms, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said. Second line of production for LCA in the pipeline: Parrikar

The Dollar Business Bureau At the inaugural of Aero India 2017, an International Aerospace and Defence Exhibition, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar announced the government's plans to providing impetus to an indigenous production of defence aircraft. In particular, the government has sanctioned expenditure of Rs 359 crore to set up a second line of production for Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas. While this project is likely to commence in three months, the production process shall take a year and a half to get rolling. The Defence Minister also said that Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) has been asked to augment production in various sectors by outsourcing in 'large quantities'. Plans to export LCA Tejas to other countries: MoD

The Dollar Business Bureau The Minister for Defence Manohar Parrikar in a reply to a question in the Lok Sabha yesterday, has said that the government proposes to export Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas to other countries. Preliminary discussions with a few friendly countries are in progress. It should be recalled that Sri Lanka had expressed interest to purchase the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas in February 2016. Also during the recent International Airshow, at Bahrain, 2016 the HAL chief had revealed that there were many enquiries from countries to purchase LCA, Tejas. Parrikar inaugurates HAL-Safran JV for helicopter engines in Goa

The Dollar Business Bureau The Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar inaugurated Helicopter Engines Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (HE-MRO), a Joint Venture of HAL and Safran Helicopter Engines (SafranHE), France at Sattari District, North Goa, yesterday. The JV will provide MRO services for Safran TM333 2B2 and HAL Shakti engines installed on HAL-built helicopters operated by the defence services. Speaking on the occasion, Parrikar said this is a step towards creating employment opportunities with corresponding boost to the economic activities in Goa. “This is the right place for MRO activities related to helicopter engines. Govt. okays Rs.35,500 cr order for Goa shipyard

The Dollar Business Bureau Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday said his ministry has okayed a Rs.35,500 crore order for Goa Shipyard Ltd. He expressed hope the project will generate employment opportunities for the local youth. "We have finalised an order for Goa Shipyard Limited worth Rs 35,500 crore. To execute the order, there will be direct investment of Rs 4,000 crore by the Shipyard," Parrikar said in Goa. He indicated the Shipyard has already begun to work on constructing jetties and other infrastructure, and it would be completed in next one-and-half years. "Goa Shipyard will have a turnover of Rs 3,500 crore annually providing employment to 3,000 youths," he said.
