The Dollar Business Bureau The state government of Odisha, which is working on a new state export policy, has set a target of reaching Rs.1 lakh crore of exports by the year 2025. “Odisha has set a target of achieving an export turnover of Rs.1 lakh crore by 2025,” said L N Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Department on Thursday. The Dollar Business Bureau  Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday announced a number of measures that include establishing agencies in all coastal states for aquaculture and fisheries and incentives for exporting marine items, under the Merchandise Exports from India Scheme (MEIS).  Currently, government allocates Rs.22,000 crore yearly for exports, under the MEIS.  “From the current fiscal onwards, an additional amount of Rs.1,500 crore will be provided under the MEIS scheme that will include some specific marine and seafood products,” Sitharaman said at the India International Seafood Show in Visakhapatnam.  The aquaculture and fisheries agencies, under the chief ministers’ guidance and led by the chief secretaries of the states, will be under the supervision of Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), the nodal agency ...

The Dollar Business Bureau India’s seafood exports fell in both value and volume terms during the 2015-16 fiscal, after registering a constant growth in the last seven financial years, Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) announced on Friday. During the financial year 2015-16, seafood exports from India contracted 10% to 945,892 tonnes as against 1,051,243 tonnes in the fiscal 2014-15. Touching a one million tonne mark, marine exports fetched foreign exchange of $5.5 billion to the country during the period. Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Leena Nair, chairman, Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), said, “During the financial year 2014-15, exports of marine products reached an all-time high of $ 5511.12 million.
