The Dollar Business Bureau Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport & Highways and Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation Nitin Gadkari said on Sunday that India and South Korea are set to strengthen their relations in the field of shipping and ports and will sign an agreement that will facilitate Indian seafarers to work on Korean ships. “The undertaking with the Republic of Korea for mutual recognition of Certificate of Competency (CoC) will be beneficial to both the countries as Korea is a large ship owning nation while India is a large seafaring nation with around 1,54,349 Indian seafarers,” the Minister said before leaving for Seoul. Adani to set up a multi-purpose port in Malaysia
The Dollar Business Bureau Adani Group on Monday signed an agreement with Malaysia’s MMC Ports with the possibility of setting up a multi-purpose port majorly to handle containers at the Carey Island of Malaysia. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed by Adani Ports with MMC Ports of Malaysia to conduct a feasibility study of Carey Island Port Project as an expansion of the Port Klang, which is presently the world’s 11th busiest container port. Milaha Launches First Direct Container Service Between Saudi Arabia And India
The Dollar Business Qatar Navigation (Milaha), a maritime and logistics conglomerate based in Qatar, has signed an agreement with the Kandla International Container Terminal (KICT) in India, to start the first direct common carrier feeder service between Saudi Arabia and India. The frequency of the first-of-its-kind service will be weekly and will connect the Gujarat port of Kandla directly with Jebel Ali in Dubai, and Dammam and Jubail in Saudi Arabia. It is likely to introduce the Merchant Shipping (Amendment) Bill, 2015 to check the negative impact of ballast water discharge by cargo ships on the coastal ecology. The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday, gave its approval for the introduction of the Merchant Shipping (Amendment) Bill, 2015 and accession to the “International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments, 2004,” a government statement said.
