The Dollar Business Bureau The Commerce and Industry Ministry will soon bring in a policy framework for facilitating access to global markets for the Indian agriculture produce, Union minister Suresh Prabhu said while addressing an agri summit. Prabhu, who took charge as Commerce and Industry Minister recently, said that his ministry will work on developing global supply chain for the agriculture sector. Addressing the agri summit the minister said that multilaterally there is also need to work on removing trade restrictions with an aim to boost Indias agri exports. Indias food grain output to record 275.68 MT in 2016-17
The Dollar Business Bureau With good monsoon rains and various policy initiatives by the Government, India’s overall production of food grain to be increased by 2.3 million tonne to an all-time high of 275.68 million tonnes in the crop year 2016-17, according to the fourth advance estimates released by the Agriculture Ministry on Wednesday. Record production has been achieved in wheat, rice, pulses and coarse cereals in the crop year that ended in June. The previous record of food grain production was 265.04 million tonnes, achieved in the crop year 2013-14 (July-June). Kharif foodgrain production to surpass last year numbers: Agri Secretary
The Dollar Business Bureau Agriculture Secretary Shobhana K Pattanayak said on Saturday that the foodgrain production in the ongoing kharif season 2017-18 is expected to exceed last year's record output of 138.04 million tonnes on account of higher sowing area and good monsoon. Till now, more than 80% of the sowing of kharif crops such as pulses, paddy, cotton, oilseeds, jute and sugarcane, has been completed and the sowing will continue in some regions until next month, he told PTI. Indian Cabinet okays India-Palestine MoU on agriculture cooperation
The Dollar Business Bureau The Indian Cabinet has given its approval to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and the Ministry of Agriculture in the State of Palestine on agriculture cooperation. This was signed in May 2017, when Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs had visited the country. Foodgrain output to reach a new record in 2017-18
The Dollar Business Bureau India’s foodgrain production is expected to reach a new high in the crop year 2017-18 which begins from July, on the hopethat India has normal rains consecutively for the second year, said Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh. Foodgrain output is projected to be at a record high at 273.38 million tonnes in the current crop year (July-June) on the back of good monsoon after drought for two years, compared to 251.57 million tonnes previous year. India to halt imports of Chinese apples and pears after they fail pesticide tests
The Dollar Business Bureau India has issued a directive to halt the imports of Chinese apples and pears from June 1. According to a statement made by the Ministry of Agriculture, the recent imports of Chinese apples and pears contained harmful microorganisms. Indian National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO) reported that 26 batches of Chinese pears and apples were contaminated and the same was conveyed to the Chinese Inspection and Quarantine Bureau on May 31. A second batch of apples and pears from China once again revealed harmful microorganisms. Since no action was taken to remedy the situation, the Indian government decided to temporarily halt the import of apples and pears from that country starting from June. Govt revises inspection fee on plant material imports
