The Dollar Business Bureau NITI Aayog Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Amitabh Kant said on Thursday that the strong push by the Government towards e-mobility is targeted towards making India an export hub for electric vehicles. “The vehicle penetration in the country is the lowest among the developing countries. At present, India has 20 cars per 1,000 people whereas the US has 800 cars,” Kant said while addressing the 57th Annual Convention of SIAM in New Delhi. “Other countries will have the problem to make the switch to electric but India has the advantage to become the leader because of its low penetration levels. The Dollar Business Bureau India looks set to join the TIR Convention also known as the "Transports Internationaux Routiers" or "International Road Transports" Convention as it is keen to establish the seamless trade connectivity that TIR Convention members enjoy with Southeast Asia and the Eurasian region. By joining this convention India can reap the full benefit of INSTC or International North South Transportation Corridor, which grants access to the Eurasian province via Iran. The agreement will be signed on June 15, 2015 at the BBIN Transport Minister’s meeting in Thimpu, Bhutan. Signing of the BBIN agreement will promote safe, economical, efficient and environmentally sound road transport in the sub-region and will further help each country in creating an institutional mechanism for regional integration. Expected to be signed on July 15 by the Indian Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and his counterparts in Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh, the agreement is expected to provide seamless transit of passenger and cargo vehicles between the countries, thereby, making cross-border trade cost efficient.
