Codex standards adopted for 3 spices, India's efforts pay off
The Dollar Business Bureau In a major recognition of efforts by India for benchmarking international spices trade, global standards setting body Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) has accepted three Codex standards for white, green and black pepper, thyme and cumin, setting a course for universal agreement for identifying quality spices in different countries. Spices exports touch all-time high of Rs.17665 cr in 2016-17
The Dollar Business Bureau The exports of spices and spice products from India have reached an all-time high of 9,47,790 tonnes, worth around Rs.17665 crores during 2016-17. This information was given by Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in a written response to the Lok Sabha on Monday. The shipments registered a growth of 12% in volume terms and 9% in value terms compared to a year ago. During 2015-16, the exports stood at 8,43,255 tonnes worth Rs.16238 crore. India's trade deficit with China decreases to $51 bn in 2016-17, Sitharaman
The Dollar Business Bureau The CIM, Nirmala Sitharaman in a reply to a question raised in the Parliament today said, “ India's trade deficit with China has marginally dipped to $51 billion in 2016-17 from $52.69 billion in the previous fiscal and efforts are being made to increase the overall exports by diversifying the trade basket.” She said that emphasis is being given to manufactured goods, resolution of market access issues, services and other non-trade barriers. "This is done through bilateral meetings and institutional dialogues.
