The Dollar Business Bureau The packaging industry in India is growing at an annual rate of 15%. Currently pegged at $25 billion, the industry is set to reach $30-35 billion mark by 2020, said a top government official. “Keeping in view the growth of this major industry and the country’s potential to augment exports, the central government is creating an experts committee to analyse packaging standards needed to be followed in the highly competitive world market,” stated Inder Jit Singh, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, while addressing the Asian Packaging Congress 2016 in Mumbai on Saturday. The Dollar Business Bureau  Underlining that Afghanistan’s farm production and exports have been on a growth trajectory, Afghanistan on Tuesday invited Indian businesses to invest in the country’s agriculture sector and emphasised that it offers vast opportunities in its manufacturing, marketing, packaging and processing of farm products. "Rebuilding trade relationships and expanding export markets for Afghan products are critical for Afghanistan’s job creation, capital flows and overall stability," said Abdul Qadeer Jawad, Afghanistan’s Deputy Minister for Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock. Source: PTI Expecting a bumper jute crop this season, the Jute Commissioner's (JC) office is all set to recommend to the Centre against dilution of mandatory jute packaging on fears that it may drive farmers to suicide.  A meeting of the Standing Advisory Committee (SAC) of the Ministry of Textiles on July 15 is slated to discuss the procurement plan for the 2016-17 season. The JC forecasts jute production during the current season to be in excess of 90 lakh bales. The commissionerate officials feel that any dilution in mandatory packaging in food grains from the current 90 per cent would set back demand of jute bags, forcing mills to cut down production leading to large-scale unemployment, which could create a law and order situation as well.
